Carpet Beetle Pest Control - FAQ's
What Are Varied Carpet Beetles?
Varied Carpet Beetles (Anthrenus verbasci) are very small beetles about 4mm long at most and have young called wooly bears. These carpet bugs are often found on window sills where they pesrish from dehydration - attracted by the abumndance of UV light available. When you see them for the first time it is very easy to mistake them for very small brown ladybirds, but of course they are not.
The beetles live for about a month during wich they will mate and the females lay about a hundred eggs. The carpet beetle larvae often called wooly bears will then hatch from the eggs and devour the textiles on which they were layed, over a period of a bout a year before pupating and developing into new adults.
What Damage Do Carpet Beetles Create?
Varied carpet beetle damage can cost thousands in replacement textiles like carpets and rugs. Carpet Beetles will lay about a hundred or so eggs onto suitable textile fibres, such as those found in carpets, rugs and clothing. The carpet beetle larvae or wooly bears as they are commonly called can create massive damage in sufficient numbers and only professional methods and chemicals are likely to acheive satisfactory control whilst maintaining safety of both individuals and the textiles themselves.
Do Carpet Beetles Bite?

Pest Control Advice:
Getting rid of Carpet Beetles and other insects like ants, fleas and bedbugs is not as simple as many pesticide manufacturers will lead you to believe. The chemicals or poisons on offer in supermarkets and shops often have a fraction of the effect that is achieved through professional products and this means you are likely to get through many cans of treatment without actually achieving full control. As the only Bristol pest control company offering a dedicated insect control service we are able to deliver pest control treatments that are often guaranteed to work.
Pest control is all about understanding the pest you are trying to eliminate or prevent. The Wasp for example creates a wasp nest early in the year so if you wanted to control wasps in Bristol you would probably guess that checking for a new wasp nest in your loft in April and May would allow you to remove a wasp nest safely before it became too large. By understanding your pest, you are able to plan control in advance, before infestation occurs and the cost of elimination becomes high.
